Nov. 3 Palestine Fair to introduce Holy Land travel scholarship
Submitted by allison schmitt on Sun, 10/21/2012 - 3:56pm
Get ready for a trip to the Holy Land in an afternoon filled with travelers’ accounts, cooking demonstrations, historical artifacts, fashion, crafts, dancing and food at an upcoming family-friendly event.
The fair is scheduled for 1-5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at the United Methodist Church, 1401 Maple St., Northfield. The fair is free and open to the public. The Palestine Fair will promote travel to Israel-Palestine as well as introduce a scholarship to be offered by Northfielders for Justice in Palestine/Israel.
NJP is seeking applicants for its Palestine travel scholarship. Successful applicant(s) will participate in an alternative tourism program by the Siraj Center for Holy Land Studies (sirajcenter.org), with most program costs at NJP’s expense. NJP welcomes donations for this project.
Siraj provides travel programs off the tourist trail for a rich and authentic experience of the Holy Land. The Center, which is located in Beit Sahour, West Bank, aims to bring visitors and locals together for intercultural experiences while providing income-generating opportunities for Palestinian communities.
The fair is presented by Northfielders for Justice in Palestine/Israel, an ecumenical group of community members who organize local events to educate and advocate for justice and peace in Palestine/Israel. Members of the committee are available to speak about their experiences in Palestine/Israel.
