Public discussion of the Q-Comp proposal and vote continues on the ISSUES list. See the web-based archives for the comments.I saw school board member Mike Berthelsen at the coffee house last week and asked him if the Q-Comp proposal that was defeated by the Northfield teachers could made available to the general public. He thought it could, since the Board had it in their packet for their vote on it at the Dec. 12th meeting. I phoned him last night to see I could get a copy for posting on N.org. He phoned me back after talking to Supt. Chris Richardson and Kari Nelson, board chair and said it was fine to publish the documents. I also asked Mike to check on the total number of teachers in the district who were eligible to vote. Chris told him there were 280 teachers (256 FTE -- full time equivalents).
I was told by a teacher that 63% (179) of the eligible teachers (280) voted on the proposal, and that 118 were opposed, 61 in favor. I've not tried to verify those numbers with the union leadership but in conversations with other educational leaders, no one has disputed them.
