ISSUES list topics of the week: Dog park, snow removal

Recent topics of discussion (see the archives for a glimpse) has focused on the pros and cons of a dog park for Northfield as well as snow removal from sidewalks.

Griff, thanks for posting Mary Rossings letter to the paper in July, 2004. I am excited about all the responses on this issue of bringing a dog park to Northfield.
The community would benefit greatly from a dog park. There are a number of potential sites around town, as mentioned in prior postings. Memorial Park seems to be a favorite among dog park enthusiasts because of its size(large enough for a pool, a dog park and more) and the fact that it is currently being used by many dog owners to exercise their dogs and themselves.
Several parks have been mentioned (on this site) as potential locations for the dog park. CAP's (Canines at Play) intention is to present to the park board a request for a two acre dog park. The city can then consider what location would best accomodate a dog park. If/when the location is determined the CAP steering committee would would help the city with anything they need including fund raising, gathering public opinion, and park design among other things.
Anyone excited about getting a dog park or concerned about having a park in town would benefit from visiting any of the attached websites. There is a wealth of info online. Visiting a dog park to see how they are layed out and to see how they work is the best way to visualize what we hope to achive. The closest park is in Coates and another is in Prior Lake.
At this point we are looking for steering committee members to help make a dog park in Northfield a reality. If you are interested call me at 645-4522.
