Full Moon Events

full moonWith the extended weather forecast calling for mostly clear skies, the upcoming full moon brings a flurry of autumnal activity to the area. Friends of Way Park kicks things off this Saturday at 7 p.m. with an evening of folktales and music in Way Park. Joseph Mbele, St. Olaf professor and author, will spin tales from his native Tanzania, and the Carleton African Dum Ensemble will perform between stories.

Sesquicentennial Cemetery ToursOn Monday, the night of the actual full moon, Sesquicentennial Cemetery Tours will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. and/or 8 to 9 p.m. at Northfield Cemetery (across from the High School) with actors portraying former Northfielders from their gravesites. Also on Monday, Faribault's River Bend Nature Center hosts a free Full Moon Hike from 7 to 8:30 p.m. And, if that's not enough, this full moon will also feature a very slight partial lunar eclipse, but not until just before sunrise.

Thank you, Doug, for this post.

This moon (the full moon in October) always reminds me of the "Feast of the Hunter's Moon" festival that I used to go to in Indiana. I always enjoy a late-night walk this time of year as a way to prepare myself spiritually for the coming deer hunt. (Background: the Feast of the Hunters' Moon is a re-creation of the annual fall gathering of the French and Native Americans which took place Fort Ouiatenon, a fur-trading outpost in the mid - 1700s. It is held annually in early autumn on the banks of the Wabash River, four miles southwest of West Lafayette).

This full moon atually reminds me of an entirely different moon festival (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_Festival), from the couple years I spent in Asia, but I like the sound of yours as well!
