Red worm composting is a way to convert biodegradable food waste into rich organic matter in the convenience of your own home. This class covers the worm life cycle, feeding rhythms and techniques, developing a composting system, descriptions of soil and potting media, and how to use composted material after your worms have processed it. This class is meant for students of all ages, for people who want to continue composting during winter months, and for those who might be tempted to think that worm composting is too complicated. It's not! Come and build your own bin and leave with absolutely EVERYTHING you need to get started at home or come and listen and learn all about it. Neil Cunningham is an avid worm composter and urban naturalist who enjoys working with living organisms and teaching others about how worm compost can help improve soil quality.
Wednesday, January 27, 7-9 p.m. in the Just Food Community Room, 516 Water St S., Northfield
Cost: $45 for the class and EVERYTHING you need to get started, including the worms.
OR $12 to come and listen if you are not ready to start composting yet, but would like to learn more.
Please register and pre-pay by phone or with a cashier. Minimum of 5 people needed for this class.
