World-Renowned Takács Quartet to Appear at Carleton College

The world-renowned Takács Quartet will perform at 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 10, 2010, in the Carleton College Concert Hall. The program will include String Quartet Op. 18, No.4 and Op. 132 by Beethoven and String Quartet Op. 71, No 1 by Haydn. Their not-to-be-missed performance is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts. This event is free and open to the public.

The Takács Quartet is composed of musicians Edward Dusinberre on violin, Károly Schranz on violin, Geraldine Walther on viola, and András Fejér on cello. Together, they are recognized as one of the world's great ensembles.  Each musician has a distinct musical personality that adds to the overall humor, warmth and drama of every performance. Their recordings have won numerous awards, including the Disc of the Year and Chamber Award from BBC Music Magazine, a Gramophone Award, Japanese Record Academy Awards, Gramophone Awards, a Chamber Music of America Award, and a Grammy. 

 

Currently based in Boulder at the University of Colorado, the Takács Quartet performs ninety concerts a year worldwide, throughout Europe as well as in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea.  As quartet-in-residence at the University of Colorado, the group has aided in the development of a string program with special emphasis on chamber music. yes">  Their students work in a nurturing environment designed to help them develop their artistry. The Quartet's commitment to teaching is enhanced by summer residencies at the Aspen Festival and at the Music Academy of the West, Santa Barbara.
