We Sing With Joy: Magnum Chorum & The St. Olaf Choir
Magnum Chorum welcomes the world-renowned St. Olaf Choir and Dr. Anton Armstrong in an exhilarating evening of song to begin our 20th season! You'll hear a magnificent Russian setting of Our Father by Nikolai Golovanov, Frank Martin's mesmerizing Sanctus from Mass for Double Choir, and How Great Are Thy Wonders by Schumann celebrating the joy of creation. Premiered this evening is a colorful new work,Hidden in Light, by emerging composer Stanford Scriven. The choirs unite and lift up our voices inChichester Psalms, Leonard Bernstein's dramatic work sung in Hebrew and alternatively dissonant, lyrical, forceful and peaceful as it contrasts "Why do the nations rage" with "The Lord is my shepherd" and "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord." With harp, organ, and percussion, this unconventional work with Broadway influences reveals our human struggle for faith in the divine while living on earth. We sing with joy the treasures of profound musical influences including Kenneth Jennings' With a Voice of Singing and The Lord is the Everlasting God and F. Melius Christiansen's Wake, Awake, bringing to Westwood Lutheran Church an unforgettable night of music guaranteed to raise the roof!
