Scandinavian Missionaries, Gender, and Armenian Refugees During World War I: Crisis and Reshaping of Vocation. Inger Marie Okkenhaug, historian and assistant professor at Volda University College, Norway, will focus on a group of Scandinavian nurses and teachers who went to Turkish Armenia to do mission work. Encountering the Ottoman government's genocidal war against its Armenian population, their mission was transformed to performing illegal rescue operations.
