A service of inspiration and renewal for caregivers, featuring music, scripture and guided meditation led by Henry Emmons, MD, will be Tuesday, April 20, 7 p.m. in the Three Links Chapel.
Called “Restore, Replenish, Renew,” this service is designed for anyone who is providing care or services to persons in need. This includes family caregivers, nurses, physicians, healthcare workers, therapists, clergy, volunteers and others. This year’s service will include reflective music, scripture and prayer, the traditional anointing of the hands, as well as Native American drumming and guided meditation.
“We wanted to add an experiential component to this year’s service,” said Ruth Kruse, one of the coordinators of the event. “We know not all people’s spirits are nourished in the same way, so this will make renewal more accessible to more people.”
Dr. Emmons is a psychiatrist who uses mind-body and alternative therapies in his clinical work. A resident of Northfield, he is the author of "The Chemistry of Joy, A Three-Step Program for Overcoming Depression Through Western Science and Eastern Wisdom."  His second book will be published in October.
Jesse Fearing will provide the Native American drumming. Pastor Diane Goulson of Northfield Retirement Community, Pastor Donna Buell of Northfield United Methodist Church and Julia Uleberg will read. Pastor Janet White of Trondhjem Lutheran Church and Three Links will provide gathering music, and Pastor Buell, Pastor Charlie Ruud and Pam Santerre of Bethel Luthern Church and Jim Blaha of Northfield Community Action Center will serve as anointers.
Following the service there will be refreshments and time for fellowship. Karen Mader, Sherri Bunch Quaas, Corrine Skeels and Julia Uleberg will provide massage at no charge.
Northfield Retirement Community, Northfield Hospital & Clinics, and Three Links Care Center are sponsoring the service.
