On Sunday, January 24 at 5 p.m., the Northfield community is invited to attend a special Tibetan Buddhist Service of Teaching and Mediation in the Skinner Memorial Chapel at Carleton College. The service will be led by Lama Tsultrim Yeshe and a soup supper will follow the service. This event is free and open to the public.

Yeshe began practicing Buddhism in the Tibetan tradition in 1987. Five years later he entered a traditional Tibetan 3-year, 3-month group retreat which was preceded by a 6-month preparatory course of study. The retreat was held at Karme Ling retreat center in the Catskills in New York and the retreat master was Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche. While in retreat he took monastic vows with Tai Situ Rinpoche in 1994. Upon completion of the retreat he was given the title Retreat Lama. Since 1997 Yeshe leads a small meditation center on his land in rural Wisconsin and also travels to different Buddhist Centers in the U.S. teaching and leading retreats. Since 2003 he has worked for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections as a prison Chaplain at a medium security correctional institution. He is the Wisconsin Department of Corrections first Chaplain who is from the Buddhist tradition.

The Skinner Memorial Chapel is located off First Street in Northfield. For more information, contact the Carleton College Office of the Chaplain at (507) 222-4003.
