Concert Hall, Carleton College

Carleton College Enid and Henry Woodward Organist Lawrence Archbold will continue his “Organ Adventures” series on Sunday, April 11 at 3 p.m. in the campus Concert Hall.  This mini-series, featuring one-hour length concerts, is just part of Archbold’s new “Exploring Organ Music” initiative.  This event is free and open to the public.

“Organ Adventures” began with works spanning from the Renaissance through Romanticism, including Sweelinck, J. S. Bach, Frank, and Mendelssohn.  Archbold’s second installment will include Renaissance composer Hans Leo Hassler and Baroque composer J. S. Bach, but it will also include modern composers like John Cage. The Bach section will feature the "Dorian" Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, one of Bach's great organ toccatas.  The performance will range greatly in style and period, showcasing the evolution of great organ music.

Archbold, a professor of music at Carleton, received his AB, MA, and PhD degrees from the University of California, Berkeley. He has published a book and several articles and essays on both German Baroque and French Romantic organ music, given lectures at national meetings of the American Musicological Society and the American Guild of Organists, and performed over 100 organ recitals.

The Carleton College Concert Hall is located at First Street and Winona Street in Northfield. For more information or disability accommodations, contact the music department at (507) 222-4475.
