Summer Adventure Girls

Summer Adventure Girls is a program for 4th-6th grade girls. We meet in the meeting room of the Norfield Library every Wednesday from 4-5pm and all take turns reading aloud for the hour. We choose books with strong female characters and provide them for the girls each week. Once we finish a book we have a fun activity or event (often times requiring permission slips from partents). Everyone is welcome to join us at anytime of the program.

The program starts June 25th and will go through the August 20th and will most likely pick up again in mid September. Our first book will be Caddie Woodlawn by Carol Ryrie Brink.

Annie Get Your Girlfriends - Free Health Event in Downtown Northfield!

Entertainment, information, prizes and free samples are a recipe for a wonderful evening for you and your friends in downtown Northfield! The creators of "4RealWomen" and "Manzone" invite you to "Annie Get Your Girlfriends", a free downtown health event on July 25 from 4-8 p.m.

From the Community Resource Bank parking lot to Anna's Closet, down to The Sketchy Artist, attendees will enjoy a live bluegrass band, face painting, chair massages, a Harley-Davidson women's clinic, information on health and community, free samples and plenty of "retail therapy".

Emotions Anonymous Group Meeting

Group description: Emotions Anonymous takes a Twelve-Step approach, and helps people look at emotions they are dealing with. Free and open to the public. Confidential, non-professional setting with no therapists present.

The Emotions Anonymous group meets every Monday (ask about days surrounding holidays) from 7pm to 8pm at St. Peter's Church in Northfield, on Sumner Street. For more information, contact the Northfield Hospital Chaplain, Dr. Neal Thompson at 645-8252.

MOMS Club of Northfield Open House

MOMS Club of Northfield, MN will host its first event, an open house, on Tuesday, July 29 at the Northfield Public Library, from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.

International MOMS Club was founded 25 years ago to provide support to mothers who stay home with their children during the week full time or part time, because being a mom shouldn’t be isolating. MOMS Club of Northfield joins more than 2,000 chapters across the country and internationally in planning day activities for mothers and their children, such as playgroups, craft days, outings to zoos and parks and more. Additional support for the mothers comes in monthly Moms’ Night Out gatherings, volunteers who provide meals to members with new children, and simply the chance to spend time with other moms on a regular basis.

The Northfield Health Care Reform Group will have a gathering at the Northfield Public Library from 7–9 p.m. on July 29, 2008. This group is made up of concerned citizens interested in furthering change in the way health care functions in the United States. Health care is a central issue in our country. It affects not only the economy as well as every part of our state and country. Careful study shows that it takes funding away from many other issues and services such as education, environment, and job creation.

Dr. Jim Hart, from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health is the featured speaker. His presentation will deal with three important topics:

Meredith Fierke CD Release Show

Northfield singer/songwriter Meredith Fierke’s much anticipated solo debut album, “The Procession,” will be released in August 2008. In celebration, Fierke and band will perform a special CD release concert on Friday, August 8 at Northfield’s historic Grand Theater, along with special guest Scaredy Cat Blackie. Tickets are $8 and will be available at the door. Advance tickets can also be purchased at Sisters Ugly in downtown Northfield.

“The Procession” beautifully showcases Fierke’s hypnotic compositions and ethereal voice. Known for her mesmerizing live performances, the album captures the essence of Fierke’s compelling artistry, combining intelligent and emotionally textured lyrics with arpeggiated guitar and haunting and seductive vocals. Fierke’s songs are simultaneously dark yet innocent, fragile yet fervently impassioned.

Tour de Nick

The Northfield Bicycle Club http://www.northfieldbikeclub.org/home/ will be hosting the 6th annual "Tour de Nick" on Sunday, August 10. This unsupported ride leaves in a mass start from the parking lot at Mike's Bicycles and riders will have a choice of 3 different ride lengths from 10 to 50 plus miles.

Free will donations to SAVE, Suicide Awareness Voices of Education will be encouraged and accepted. Executive Director Dr. Dan Reidenberg, of SAVE plans to kick off and participate in the ride.

The long ride will have a variety of trophies to the top sprinters, hill climbers and the overall "Big Ring" award.
