Hot Reads for Cold Nights returns to the Northfield Public Library this winter.  During the cold, snowy months of January and February, curl up and read some books and win prizes at the library!  Join the library Hot Reads program starting Monday, January 7,  and read for prizes until Friday, March 1.

Countering Conflict with Your Heart: Creating peace in Relationshipsis program being offered for Northfield area residents by John Owens, Certified Life Coach. The program will be eight sessions held every other Thursday from 7 to 9 PM (venue in Northfield TBD) beginning January 17 from 7 to 9 PM, and running alternate weeks through April 25. Cost is a voluntary donation; the benefits are priceless.

Dr. Ebony Utley, an assistant professor of communication studies at California State University, Long Beach, whose work focuses on popular culture, race and interpersonal relationships, will deliver Carleton College’s convocation address on Friday, Feb. 1. Utley’s address, “The Rap On Rap And Religion,” will look at references to God in rap music and the religious roots prevalent in urban communities. Convocation is held from 10:50-11:50 a.m. in the Skinner Memorial Chapel, and it is free and open to the public. Convocations are also streamed live and can be viewed online at http://apps.carleton.edu/events/convocations/.

at the Carleton Weitz Center (Union Street between East 2nd and 3rd Streets)

Come learn the basics of contra dance from dance caller and instructor Robin Nelson,

a favorite caller at our Northfield dances, and at the Tapestry Folk Dance Center in Minneapolis.

No prior dance experience needed; no partner required.  Local residents of all are ages are welcome to participate.

These dance lessons will warm you up for . . .

the 7th Annual Northfield Winter Stomp, a community contra dance

which is coming up on Friday, February 22, 7 -9:30 pm at the Northfield Armory.
