Northfield Arts Guild Member Sharol Nau exhibits large-scale mixed media work. The design of these artworks is influenced by Goldbach’s Conjecture, written in 1742 by the German mathematician Christian Goldbach. This gallery is located near the lab waiting area at Allina Medical Clinic of Northfield at 1440 Jefferson Road. Regular Clinic Hours are 7 am to 8 pm Monday through Thursday, 7 am to 7 pm Fridays, and 9 am to 3 pm Saturdays. This show features a diverse range of small artworks at or under 6” x 6” x 12” in scale. Forty artists from across Minnesota have been selected to be a part of this themed exhibition juried by Stephen Mohring, Associate Professor of Art at Carleton College and John Saurer, Associate Professor of Art and Department Chair at St. Olaf College. The opening reception will be held on Friday, August 10 from 7-9pm. The Northfield Arts Guild Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 10am – 5pm and Saturdays and Sundays 11am – 3pm August 11 through September 9. Start: Aug 31 2012 7:00 am
The 38th annual Rice County Steam and Gas Engine Show will be held August 31 to September 2 from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The show is located three miles south of Northfield on Highway 3 at the Dundas Showgrounds. Admission is $8 per day or $15 for the weekend. Ages 12 and under are free. Start: Aug 31 2012 6:30 pm
Any intersted youth (approx ages 8-18) are invited to join the recently formed Youth Bluegrass Jam, this Friday, August 31st at 6:30pm at the house of Becky and Dan Wagner, 215 Nevada Street. Since May, Laura Geissler, David Haugen-Eitzman and Dan Watts have been leading an enthusiastic group of youth in learning some traditional Bluegrass Tunes and teaching how to participate in a jam. Currently attending are fiddle, bass, guitar, viola, cello, banjo and mandolin players. The jam starts with an hour of structured instuction on particular song/songs. At 7:30, it moves into a looser jam sesson, where youth are encouraged to bring a song to share.
