Oil paintings of local interest by Marsha Kolstad Morrill Kitchel are featured in this exhibit that runs from February 27 through April 9, 2012. This gallery is located near the lab waiting area at Allina Medical Clinic of Northfield at 1440 Jefferson Road. Regular Clinic Hours are 7 am to 8 pm Monday through Thursday, 7 am to 7 pm Fridays, and 9 am to 3 pm Saturdays. YMCA Wiggles & Giggles (ages 0-5) We fill the Northfield Armory with mats, balls and a variety of play equipment, so children can climb, bounce and crawl around the entire gym. This is an open gym program for parents/guardians and kids ages 6 and under. The Carleton College Perlman Teaching Museum will formally open its new spring term exhibit, “Our Treasures: Highlights from the Minnesota Museum of American Art,” on Saturday, March 31 at 2 p.m. with a three-hour reception and community open house that includes a presentation by the exhibit curator along with family-friendly arts activities. “Our Treasures,” on display in the Braucher Gallery of the Perlman Teaching Museum, is comprised of a rich collection of paintings, sculpture, drawings, photography and craft objects, showcases American art in a variety of styles and runs from March 30 until May 8, 2012. Located in the College’s Weitz Center for Creativity, admission to the Perlman Teaching Museum is free and all related events are open to the public.
Carleton College will present “Photographing the Social Body: Malian Portraiture from the Studio to the Street” in the Kaemmer Family Gallery of the Perlman Teaching Museum, located in the Weitz Center for Creativity. The exhibit, which showcases the vibrant photographic culture of the West African country of Mali, opens Friday, March 30, with a guided tour, a lecture, and an opening reception. The opening events, along with gallery admission, are free and open to the public.

Planting a rain garden improves water quality and reduces the risk of localized flooding while providing a beautiful landscape feature that’s planted with long blooming native perennials. Rain gardens capture water from downspouts and allow it to soak into the ground rather than run untreated into our rivers and lakes. Learn about the benefits and how to design and install your own rain garden. Get info on the new Rain Garden Cost Share program being launched by the City of Northfield - a 50% cost share to approved rain garden projects with a $250 maximum reimbursement. Bring a rough sketch of your property layout and downspouts for more site-specific advice. Dustin Demmer is a MN GreenCorps service member being hosted by the City of Northfield to promote low impact development practices such as rain gardens. Biogeochemist Thure Cerling will deliver the Carleton College 2011-2012 Frank G. and Jean M. Chesley Lecture on Tuesday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Weitz Center for Creativity Cinema. Entitled “Iso-Forensics, or NCIS (Never Contest Isotope Science),”Cerling’s presentation is free and open to the public.
