This exhibition focuses on the rich artistic and cultural exchange that has taken place between Japan and the US since WWII. Tracing the remarkable career of Yoshida Hodaka, the exhibition explores issues of cultural identity and globalization for Japanese and Japanese Americans.

The gallery is closed summers, holidays and college breaks.

Julie Fakler creates vibrant domestic animal paintings using acrylic on hardboard; Philip Taylor paints improvisationally with acrylic on canvas; John Wells applies paint and other materials in layers to create abstract works.

Oil paintings of local interest by Marsha Kolstad Morrill Kitchel are featured in this exhibit that runs from February 27 through April 9, 2012.  This gallery is located near the lab waiting area at Allina Medical Clinic of Northfield at 1440 Jefferson Road.  Regular Clinic Hours are 7 am to 8 pm Monday through Thursday, 7 am to 7 pm Fridays, and 9 am to 3 pm Saturdays.

YMCA Wiggles & Giggles  (ages 0-5)

We fill the Northfield Armory with mats, balls and a variety of play equipment, so children can climb, bounce and crawl around the entire gym. This is an open gym program for parents/guardians and kids ages 6 and under.

YMCA After School Open Gym (grades K-5th)

Exercise the sillies out of your kids with Open Gym fun – basketballs, scooters and much more.  Supervised program for elementary school age kids.  Free time and great exercise! Parents – join your children for some afternoon fun.

Need your soccer fix while you’re waiting for the fields to thaw? Come to the YMCA and join us for some running, kicking, teamwork fun!  We’ll stretch muscles, work on good heart health and focus on soccer skills.

YMCA Art Explorers (ages 3-K)

We supply the clay, paints, paper and glue.  You supply the children and have them bring their curiosity. Create a masterpiece for the frig – or simply enjoy stretching your child’s creativeness.  Parents, join us for family time fun.

YMCA Run-Wiggle -Paint & Giggle (ages 3-K)

Free time for kids after lunch.  Play gym games or paint or color or create a small art project.  We set up the gym with all sorts of activities and options – kids chose!  Fun free time.  New projects every week. Pay one fee and come as often as you like in each 5 week period.  Cost is per child and covers the cost of supplies, equipment and staff and planning.

First session:  Mar 27-Apr 23 and

Second session: Apr 30-May 29

YMCA Boxing (8-12 grade)

Learn the ABC’s of the sweet science of boxing.  Boxing does much more than simply build muscle and heart health.  Learn self discipline, concentration, quick thinking and enjoy the physical fitness of a growing sport for youth by former professional boxers Gordon Marino and Charlie Meyer.  Equipment provided   One-on-one coaching available.

Spring training for Library Pages informational open house.  Kids who will be finishing grade 5 and up are invited to drop in and find out what it involves to volunteer as a library page for the summer reading program.

starting Tuesday, April 3th through the end of the school year.

Author Robert Brenneman interviewed sixty-three former gang members from the "Northern Triangle" of Central America--Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras--most of whom left their gang for evangelicalism.


Brenneman will share stories from his new book on gang conversions (Homies and Hermanos: God and Gangs in Central America, Oxford 2012) before concluding with a discussion of the spiral of drug-trafficking and violence ravaging the region today.
