The Carleton College Art Gallery will kick-off its fall season with an exhibition showcasing fine art prints created by artists from Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Canada, and Hawaii. Prints Around the Pacific Rim, running from September 17 to November 17, 2010, celebrates the varied method of printmakers, and highlights artistic exchange between cultures across the wide Pacific. Prints Around the Pacific Rim is also one of many fall events coinciding with the Mid America Print Council Conference, Old World/New World, taking place in the Twin Cities in mid-October.

Celebrate Halloween on ice! Enjoy a morning of open skating with the Northfield community. Costumes welcome and rental skates available. Sign up for Northfield Skating School lessons at our registration table (Session 2 deadline is the next day, 11/1).

The Carleton College Jazz Ensembles will perform their fall concert on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 3 p.m. in the Carleton College Concert Hall. The program will feature music ranging from the Big band era to modern compositions. This event is free and open to the public.

Directed by Carleton College senior lecturer in jazz and blues guitar, David Singley, the concert will feature classic jazz selections composed by such greats as Jerome Kern, Oscar Hammerstein II, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Johnny Mercer, Herbie Hancock, Duke Ellington, and others.

Continuing with tradition, Carleton College's Mortar Board Honors Society will conduct "Trick-or-Treat for Canned Goods" on Halloween.  Carleton students will collect, door-to-door, nonperishable items to donate to the Community Action Center Food Shelf from 6pm to 8pm on Sunday (during Trick-or-Treat).  For homeowners to wish to donate, any nonperishable items are helpful, but specifically requested items are canned fruits, vegetables, and meat, peanut butter, soup, rice, pasta, baby food and formula, diapers, and paper products.  Happy Halloween!
