The SEEDS farm, a two acre farm just outside Northfield, is excited to offer a farm tour and potluck this Wednesday, August 4th. Unlike many farms, our farm, run by three students as part of a summer internship project through St. Olaf, has a broader vision than just growing and selling food. We are striving to incorporate community building in our entrepreneurial endeavor. Our four main goals are to (1) produce healthy, organic, and affordable produce, (2) build intergenerational and diverse community connections, (3) practice good environmental stewardship while connecting people's needs to the environment, and (4) learn about the challenges of entrepreneurship and provide space for self-discovery along the way. We have a blog, http://seeds2010.wordpress.com/, if you would like to see more.

Memory of Trees is a multigenerational story of Gayla Marty’s family farm near Rush City, Minnesota. Cleared from woodlands by her great-grandfather Jacob in the 1880’s, the farm passed to her father, Gordon, and his brother, Gaylon. Hewing to a conservative Swedish Baptist faith, the two brothers worked the farm, raising their families in side-by-side houses. Books will be sold at the event by the St. Olaf Bookstore. Please call the library at (507) 645-6606 for more information or to make disability accommodations.

At 7:00 PM we will do a brief presentation explaining the flow of the next morning and helping kids and parents know what to expect. If your child has any anxiety about the event, this is a GREAT way to help them feel more comfortable, so that on the event morning, they are just excited to participate!
