DESCRIPTION:Residents of Swedish descent\, or those interested in Swedish customs\, are invited to join the 34th annual Lucia celebration on Friday\, Dec. 11.  Sponsored by the Northfield Swedish Club\, the event begins at 6 p.m. and includes a potluck supper\, a Lucia processional and pageant\, live fiddle music\, the singing of Swedish carols\, and folk dancing.
 After the meal\, the Lucias\, each dressed in white with a red sash at her waist and wearing a crown of candles on her head\, will lead a procession of attendants and star boys\, singing the traditional St. Lucia song. Afterward\, they will serve cookies and coffee to everyone. The event concludes with songs and dancing around the Christmas tree.
 Everyone – young and old\, singles\, and families – is invited to attend.  Bring your own tableware\, two dishes to pass\, and one dozen cookies. For more information\, call Wendy Smith (664-9304).

DESCRIPTION:The Northfield Downtown Development Corporation (NDDC) will host the newest members of the Northfield City Council\, Patrick Ganey and Suzie Nakasian\, at its January Downtown Forum on Tuesday\, January 4\, 2011\, beginning 8 a.m.\, in the Riverview Conference Room (lower level) of the historic Archer House River Inn\, located at 212 Division Street.
 Ganey is employed as a development officer at Carleton College. He previously served as director of the Cannon River Watershed Partnership and as a public affairs specialist for the Peace Corps\, after serving as a volunteer in Thailand. Ganey is also a former member of the Northfield Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. He is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo. Ganey\, his wife Meaghan\, and their three children live in Northfield\, and enjoy spending time gardening and cooking together.
