Bob & GailSince 1980 Bob and Gail have traveled the country together taking old time music to audiences of all ages at festivals, fairs, concerts, dances, schools, libraries, music camps, radio and TV programs. This is rural music as played in homes, at dances and for earlier entertainments such as minstrel shows and country radio. Along with a repertoire including dance tunes, ballads, cowboy songs, humorous and sentimental numbers, blues and rags, they spice their shows with stories, history and folklore. They both sing (Bob yodels, too) and play fiddle, banjo, guitar and harmonica.

MOMS Club of Northfield, MN will host its first event, an open house, on Tuesday, July 29 at the Northfield Public Library, from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.

International MOMS Club was founded 25 years ago to provide support to mothers who stay home with their children during the week full time or part time, because being a mom shouldn’t be isolating. MOMS Club of Northfield joins more than 2,000 chapters across the country and internationally in planning day activities for mothers and their children, such as playgroups, craft days, outings to zoos and parks and more. Additional support for the mothers comes in monthly Moms’ Night Out gatherings, volunteers who provide meals to members with new children, and simply the chance to spend time with other moms on a regular basis.

flyerThe Northfield Health Care Reform Group will have a gathering at the Northfield Public Library from 7–9 p.m. on July 29, 2008.  This group is made up of concerned citizens interested in furthering change in the way health care functions in the United States.  Health care is a central issue in our country.  It affects not only the economy as well as every part of our state and country.  Careful study shows that it takes funding away from many other issues and services such as education, environment, and job creation.

Dr. Jim Hart, from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health is the featured speaker. His presentation will deal with three important topics:

Be a Messenger of Peace

Hiroshima Peace Day"I will write peace on your wings and you will fly all over the world."

With these words, 12-year-old Sadako Sasaki wrote her legacy and opened new avenues in the quest for peace in the world.

You are invited to share in this legacy by writing your message of peace and folding it into a paper crane and sharing it with others at the Hiroshima Peace Day event on Wednesday, August 6 at the Northfield Public Library from 5 to 6:45 p.m.

Sadako was two years old when she was exposed to radiation during the bombing of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.  This exposure led to leukemia which was diagnosed ten years later. She began to fold origami paper cranes after her friend reminded her of the legend about folding a thousand paper cranes in order to live to be very old.

Start: 7:00 pm
