05 / 27 (event) NPL Planning Meeting #2: Ideas for Expansion Start: 7:00 pm End: 9:00 pm The Northfield Public Library is hosting a series of planning meetings at St. John's Lutheran Church Tuesday, May 13, May 27 and June 10, from 7-9 p.m. to answer an important question: Can the public library be expanded on its present site to serve the community for the next 20 years? Topics for the three meetings are: Tuesday, May 13: Dreams and visions for the library and community. Tuesday, May 27: Ideas for ways to expand the library on its current location. 05 / 28 (event) Fire, Smoke and Odor Class Offered Start: 9:00 am End: 12:00 pm ServiceMaster South Metro, Faribault and Owatonna will be holding a Continuing Education Class on Fire, Smoke and Odor Mitigation on Wednesday May 28, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. The registration fee is $25.00 and a lunch is also provided. Come and explore the chemistry of fire and the effects of smoke, chemical vapors and acidic gases produced by fire on various structural building components and household contents, even during short periods of time. This course identifies items in a property that are at risk and how emergency corrosion mitigation can prevent or minimize further damage. Also, odor mitigation methods such as ozone and air cleaning are explained. This is class has been approved by the Minnesota Commissioner of Commerce for three hours of insurance continuing education. 05 / 31 (event) Cocoa Bean/Northfield Montessori Fundraiser Start: 12:00 pm End: 5:00 pm Cocoa Bean will be holding an Hawaiian Shaved Ice fundraiser this Saturday, May 31st from 12-5 pm at their location downtown (515 Division Street South). Northfield Montessori is the benefactor of this event and will receive 50 cents from each item sold to be used to start a children's vegetable garden on their preschool playground. Come enjoy a beautiful stroll downtown with an Hawaiian Shaved Ice and give Northfield Montessori children the excitement of watching their hard work blossom. more info

Normally I'd suggest meeting on the patio, but I don't think we'll get patio weather on Thursday. Look for the people wearing nametags. more info

06 / 7 (event) Standard Poodle Play Group Monthly first Sat. at Northfield Dog Park 9 a.m. Start: 9:00 am End: 9:45 am Our standard poodle play group meets monthly the first Saturday of the month from 9 to about 9:45. We have at least nine standard poodles in town, and some hard core members who have even met in snow on Jan. 1 (when it used to be at Memorial Park). We usually have from 3-9 standards there, who are really enjoying themselves. Of course, being the town dog park, they are also playing with all the other dogs, but they seem to recognize each other as the same delightful breed. We have been meeting for three years. If you have or want a standard poodle come join us this Saturday June 7! I'll let you all know when there's something to check out on YouTube! No doubt I'll soon set a new record for number of "hits." The cost for the dinner is $8 and will include spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, beverage and a dessert. There will also be a raffle with many prizes including gift certificates from area businesses. 06 / 12 (event) Logan Olivero Fundraiser at Papa Murphy's Start: 10:00 am End: 8:00 pm On Thursday, June 12, there will be a charity fund-raiser for Northfield fifth-grader Logan Olivero at Papa Murphy’s in Northfield. Papa Murphy’s will donate 50% of all proceeds from June 12, to the Olivero family. There is also the opportunity to purchase peel-a-deal cards at the store. They are a $25 value for $5 and can be picked up any day at the Northfield Papa Murphy’s. All proceeds from the peel-a-deal cards go directly to the Olivero family. If you cannot make it to the Northfield location, and one of our other locations (Eagan or West St Paul) would be more convenient, just bring in this message on June 12 to that store and we will donate 50% of your purchase. To help out with operations that day, phoning in your order by Wednesday, June 11 would be greatly appreciated. Friends of Way Park are organizing a day of simultaneous garage sales, with each host declaring a percentage of the proceeds to benefit the park. Maps showing sites of the sales will be available at the North end of the Park, near St. Olaf Avenue, from 8:30 on, throughout the day. 06 / 16 (event) Northfield Gymnastics Golf Tournament Fundraiser Start: 1:00 pm End: 9:00 pm The Northfield Gymnastics Club is sponsoring a golf tournament again this year as the club’s major fundraising event. The tournament will be held at the Northfield Country Club beginning at 1:00pm on June 16th. Cost per individual is $100 and includes golf, cart and dinner. Or if you can only join us for dinner, the cost is $25 per person. There will also be an auction, door prizes and personal goodie bags for golfers. This hopeful film tells the stories of local food and the people connected to it.
