buckthorn removal crewAlong with other members of the Northfield Garden Club, I will be leading a group of volunteers in removing buckthorn from Hauberg Woods city park on Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Left unchecked, buckthorn will take over the forest and displace native trees and wildlife.  Hauberg Woods is located at the corner of Lockwood Drive and Thye Parkway on the north edge of Northfield. It is a natural park with forest and wetland.

Our group has been working on this project for three years and we have cleared about two or three acres thus far. In order to keep buckthorn out of the twenty or so acres of wooded area, we will need our efforts to grow—hopefully faster than the buckthorn.

This is the last weekend for the ArtOrg gallery exhibit "Czech Printmaking 2008". Here is a photoset of the opening of the show, which was a big success--drawing about 200 people. We also put one of the main artists, Jan Vicar, up on our gallery site, so see a few pieces of Jan's work here.

Has a tampon ever made you look forward to your period? Does your maxi pad make you smile? Nope. Most menstrual products only make the whole affair more uncomfortable. What's up with that? Women deserve better. Women deserve Party In My Pants.

On Saturday, April 26 at 2 p.m., come meet Luci Daum, the woman who designed the re-usable, eco-friendly feminine products sold at Just Food (you may have also bought one of her really cool hats this winter). She'll share with you the benefits of these products and answer any questions you may have.

This gathering will be held at the Just Food Event Space (previously the Mercantile) at 516 Water St. S. Due to limited seating, preregistration is required by calling 507-650-0106 or stopping by Just Food.

This year's selections for the Very Short Play Festival at the Northfield Arts Guild Theater represent a wide variety of work from playwrights young and not-as-young, novice to expert, with material ranging from silly to introspective to even more silly and less introspective. Each night will show a series of plays, each one 10 minutes or shorter.

Each night of the Very Short Play Festival is different. Friday will feature plays written by many Northfield youth, and Saturday will see plays from adult playwrights from as far away as some place called Mankato, wherever that is.

If you want to see all the plays you need to buy TICKETS for both nights - $7 for Friday, $7 more for Saturday. 645-8877 for more information.
