It includes meticulous tracking of consumption and waste, right down to the children's lunchboxes, that results in not only candid comments, but also some rather enlightening and even humorous moments.

Along with other members of the Northfield Garden Club, I will be leading a group of volunteers in removing buckthorn from Hauberg Woods city park on Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Left unchecked, buckthorn will take over the forest and displace native trees and wildlife. Hauberg Woods is located at the corner of Lockwood Drive and Thye Parkway on the north edge of Northfield. It is a natural park with forest and wetland.
Our group has been working on this project for three years and we have cleared about two or three acres thus far. In order to keep buckthorn out of the twenty or so acres of wooded area, we will need our efforts to grow—hopefully faster than the buckthorn.

She said: "Grateful customers, friends, neighbors, citizens will gather in the Lansing Hardware parking lot to help the mayor and David lock their doors for the last time. Bring picnic suppers if you will, but bring trash bags and brooms, too. There will be grills and music and a ceremony. Wednesday evening, April 30 from 6:00 to 9:00. The purpose: to celebrate their years of good service to Northfielders."

The Center for Sustainable Living will be hosting the first of many Northfield Commons Café Discussions. In these open-space circle-based discussions, all are leaders and all are learners. This event is part of an emerging broader effort by the Center for Sustainable Living, where they are building upon the idea of creating a "Local Learning Commons" - where citizens and neighbors learn from each other, engage in creative and compelling conversations, and ultimately create their own visions and manifestations for the kind of community they wish to see.

There will be a screening of the film “For the Bible Tells Me So” on Friday, May 16 at 7:00 in the assembly room of the First UCC Church, 300 Union Street.
Through the experiences of five very normal, very Christian, very American families -- including those of former House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt and Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson – the film depicts how people of faith handle, or sometimes tragically fail to handle, having a gay child. Provocative and entertaining, it reconciles homosexuality and a literal interpretation of Biblical scripture. The public is invited to view the film and to join the discussion afterward.
