YMCA Teen Camp opens Monday, July 11
The Northfield Area Family YMCA is offering middle-school-aged students their very own camp this summer.
The first week of Teen Adventure Camp, open to youngsters entering sixth through eighth grade, begins Monday, July 11.
Teen Camp is a four-day camp (Monday through Thursday) that goes from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Northfield National Guard Armory, 519 Division St.
Three camps are being offered this summer:
-- Teen Media Camp (July 11-14): Write a newspaper article, talk on the radio, journal writing, photo essays or murals, scrapbooking, publishing your work, write a novel or music. The camp will tap into teens’ media passions.
-- Teen Cuisine Camp (July 25-28) Learn about organic food, vegetarianism, cooking and eating; visit local farms; purchase your own food and cook meals in the armory kitchen. Great program for kids who like to cook or want to learn.
-- Teen Outdoor Camp (Aug. 8-11): Orienteering, examine nature, canoe the Cannon River and go fishing and swimming. Check out local species, the Carleton Cowling Arboretum and discover ecosystem concerns. Youth explore, learn a few tricks of the outdoors and have a ton of fun.
