Would You Like a Poem with That...? Poetry in Your Pocket Day 2013
Submitted by Rob Hardy on Wed, 04/03/2013 - 8:57am
April is National Poetry Month and in its honor Northfield is taking part in “Poem in Your Pocket” Day on April 18. This project was launched in 2008 by the American Academy of Poets as a simple means of giving away printed poems to anyone who would like one.
Poems will be available at eight local businesses (the Northfield Public Library; the Northfield Arts Guild; Monkey See, Monkey Read Book Store; the James Gang Coffee House; Goodbye, Blue Monday; Bittersweet Eatery; the Hideaway; and Quality Bakery). Just look for a red box with the “Poem in Your Pocket” sign and choose from among dozens of poems
The poems are surprising and delightful —some classic favorites, others surprises—each handily sized to fold and fit in your pocket. Browse through the selection and take any that appeal to you. Feel free, too, to pass one to a friend!
If you would like to have a poem in your in-box every day, consider signing up for the American Academy of Poets free email poem delivery service at (http://www.poets.org/poemADay.php) If you would like to learn more about National Poetry Month, go to www.poets.org
