World Premiere of Genesis:The Art of Creation

The world premiere of Paul Krause's new documentary, "Genesis: The Art of Creation" will take place 7pm, Thursday, March 21 at the Weitz Center for Creativity's Cinema.

The documentary features the artistry of local artist Fred Somers as he worked to create the largest and most significant painting of his long career. Fred has received numerous national awards for his oil and pastel paintings. Most recently Fred received the Bronze Award from the 2012 International Birds in Art Traveling Exhibition, International Association of Pastel Societies 20 Juried Exhibit.

Genesis documents the creation of a large oil painting (roughly 10' by 7') commissioned by the Sisters of St. Joseph for their new residence adjacent to the campus of St. Catherines University in St Paul. From the laying of the canvas to the final installation, the documentary not only shows the various techniques Fred uses in creating the painting's surface, but gives the viewer an in-depth view of the artist as naturalist, philosopher and religious being.

Paul Krause has been documenting Northfield life for over thirteen years. His most recent documentary, Harvest: A Community's History Founded in Bronze has been aired numerous times on Twin Cities Public Television. In fact, Harvest will be broadcast Saturday, March 16 at 1am, 7am, 1pm and 7pm on the Minnesota channel of TPT.
