WINGS (Women in Northfield Giving Support) invites Northfield area non-profit organizations to apply for a 2014 WINGS grant. These grants are given in support of projects benefitting women and children in the Northfield area. WINGS gives grants to qualified non-profit organizations, public schools and government organizations for the purpose of general community support. Projects funded must benefit residents of the Northfield School District. Deadline for applications is March 15.

WINGS funds grants in the following areas of focus: housing stability, food stability, economic stability, safe environments for victims of domestic violence, early learning, out-of-school programs, adult education, health care, healthy behaviors and entrepreneurship. WINGS grants must be used in the year they are awarded. Every grant candidate is considered anew in each grant cycle.

In 2013, WINGS awarded $81,189 in support of 23 grants. WINGS funds organizations that increase access to opportunity, taking into consideration financial need, input andcapacity building. WINGS favors projects that build capacity by leveraging resources and encourages grant proposals that enhance an organization’s abilities to carry out its mission. Grants that offer a proactive, innovative approach to solving a community problem or address systemic change are especially welcome. WINGS prefers to fund projects/programs where the grant has a significant impact on the organization or the program and results in tangible outcomes.

For the first time, WINGS will be giving a $10,000 award to the area non-profit which has the most compelling dream to help women and children in the Northfield area reach their full potential. The Dare to Dream Award will be offered in 2014. WINGS is seeking proposals that are innovative, impact the community and build capacity.  Each proposal must outline an idea that could not be carried out without this financial award. This award does not take the place of our annual grants, but rather is a new and exciting way to encourage applicants to take a risk and dream big with either a new endeavor or an enhancement to a current initiative. The 2014 Dare to Dream Award will be presented at the annual Grants Celebration in June.

To apply for either or both grants, go to the WINGS website at www.wings-mn.org. Applications must be submitted electronically by March 15, 2014. If you have any questions e-mail Laura Riehle-Merrill at grants@wings-mn.org.
