WINGS Accepting Grant Applications for 2013
Submitted by Mary Schier on Thu, 02/07/2013 - 4:54pm
WINGS (Women in Northfield Giving Support) invites Northfield area nonprofit organizations to apply for a 2013 WINGS grant. These grants are given in support of projects benefitting women and children in the Northfield area. WINGS gives grants to qualified nonprofit organizations, public schools and government organizations for the purpose of general community support. Projects funded must benefit residents of the Northfield School District.
For the first time in 2013, WINGS has identified entrepreneurship as a focus for the annual granting process. WINGS also continues to fund grants in the following areas of focus: housing stability, food stability, economic stability, safe environments for victims of domestic violence, early learning, out-of-school programs, adult education, healthcare, and healthy behaviors. WINGS grants must be used in the year they are awarded. Every grant candidate is considered anew in each grant cycle.
In 2012, WINGS awarded $58,900 in support of 20 grants. WINGS funds organizations that increase access to opportunity, taking into consideration financial need, input andcapacity building. WINGS favors projects that build capacity by leveraging resources and encourages grant proposals that enhance an organization’s abilities to carry out its mission. Grants that offer a proactive, innovative approach to solving a community problem or address systemic change are especially welcome. WINGS prefers to fund projects/programs where the grant has a significant impact on the organization or the program and results in tangible outcomes.
To apply for a grant, go to the WINGS website at www.wings-mn.org. A workshop will be held on Tuesday, February 26 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Northfield Public Library meeting room for anyone seeking more information about the grant process. Applications must be submitted electronically by March 15, 2013. If you have any questions, call Pat Smith at 645-6544 or e-mail her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
