Weekend Happenings and Events!

Here are just some of the happenings going on this weekend – pick up a Guide to get all the events for entire month of May. You won't want to miss them!
May 15-17
Thursday, Check out ChARTdonnay Thursday at ArtOnWater Gallery from 5 to 8 p.m. Here you can take in the latest exhibit "Medicine Dream Journeys" featuring paintings and drawings by Annette Lee and William Wilson. From 7 to 9 p.m., make your way to The Grand Event Center for the Northfield Wine Club Tasting event. Enjoy and learn more about wines while hobnobbing with other wine lovers. Be sure to step out for the Northfield Historical Society's event, "The History of Memorial Day and the Significance of the World War I Poppy," at 7 p.m. The presentation takes a look at the origin of Memorial Day including the historical significance of the Poppy and Flanders Field. This event is free for all history buffs. The Northfield High School Orchestra performs its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. at the Middle School Auditorium. Also, check out the Bluegrass and Old-time Jam Session from 7:30 to 10 p.m at The Contented Cow, and local favorites, Mr. Sticky, will perform at The Tavern Lounge.
Friday, Start the day with a rousing convocation by Robert Morris and Anthony Leach at Carleton's Concert Hall at 10:50 a.m. This event called, "Spirituals, Hymns and Gospel Music" is presented by Robert Morris, founder and artistic director of the St. Paul-based Leigh Morris Chorale, and Anthony Leach, founder and director of the Penn State University Choir. This presentation will feature solo artists from throughout the United States and members of the Carleton College Choir. You know it's spring when it's time for the Dance-n-Fitness Annual Spring Dance Recital! This year the dance students will perform Paquita and Footloose at the Northfield High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. Carleton senior studio art majors showcase their final projects with an Art Opening and Reception from 7 to 10 p.m. at Carleton's Boliou Hall. At 8 p.m., The Carleton Players present Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" at Carleton's Arena Theater. For musical entertainment, go see the RCAs at 8:30 p.m. at The Contented Cow and Jeff Ray at The Tavern Lounge.
Saturday, Wake up bright and early to treat yourself to a Traditional Norwegian Breakfast at St. Olaf's Buntrock Commons. At 7 a.m., partake in this traditional feast to celebrate Norway's Constitution Day. Featured entrees include: Norwegian breads, meats, cheeses, fish, waffles and pastries. At 1 p.m., catch the Saturday Morning Live class perform at the Northfield Arts Guild Theater. This free event is sure to entertain with improvisational skits, songs and comedy! Looking for more international cuisine? Carleton hosts its annual International Festival at 2 p.m. at the Sayles Hill Campus Center. This traditional event celebrates international cuisine as well as music, and will include performances, activities and information tables. Northfield's local Cannon Valley Regional Orchestra, conducted by Paul Niemesto, performs with legendary pianist Butch Thompson at Red Wing's Sheldon Theatre at 7 p.m. For more musical fare, find Dave Williams from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hogan Brothers' Acoustic Cafe, The Last Known Whereabouts at 8:30 p.m. at The Contented Cow and The Norwegian Cowboy at The Tavern Lounge.
