Galileo by Bertolt Brecht is an examination of the times of Galileo when Science and Religion (and thus Government) were at odds over The World as God Made It. It deals with his science, his personal life, his public life and his conflict with the powers of the Church and the Inquisition during one of the major Scientific Revolutions. David Hare’s translation is very contemporary and, as we know too well, the battle continues.
