Swedish Lucia Celebration
Area residents of Swedish descent or those interested in Swedish customs are invited to gather at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield on Friday, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m. to celebrate the beginning of the Swedish Christmas season.
The Lucia celebration is sponsored by the Northfield Swedish Club. This Swedish tradition includes a potluck supper, a Lucia procession and pageant with attendants and star boys, live fiddle music, singing and folk dancing around the Christmas tree.
Elizabeth Carlson and Maria Estenson are this year’s Lucias. Their attendants are Synneva Bratland, Kirstin Buck, Grace Casson, Johanna Drentlaw, Svea Drentlaw, Anne France, Hannah France, Annika Fredrickson, Annika Hansen, Elise Hansen, Sylvia Koenig, Allie Lane, Siri Lindell, Andrea Nelson, Linnea Nelson, Lareyna Ness, Elsa Nystrom, & Cody Sjogren. Halvor Bratland, Anders Koenig, Elias Lawler, Peder Lindell and Kenyon Nystrom will be the star boys.
Everyone – young and old, singles, and families – is invited to attend. Bring your own tableware, two dishes to pass, and one-and-one-half dozen cookies.
