A community-wide celebration for and tribute to Dan Freeman at the Grand Event Center is planned for January 25, from 6 to 10:00 p.m. Everybody is welcome for this chance for Northfielders to honor Dan for all he has done for Northfield all these years. There is no admission charge, but a silent auction, a live auction, and “donations” of storytelling at the microphone will bring in money to make his life easier this coming year.

The event is free. Planners seek auction items: for example, merchandise, creative dinners, tickets for games or entertainment venues, and gift certificates. Contact Susy Immel at susyimmel@charter.net to make a contribution. She can take them right now or any time until January 25.

Dan is a lifelong resident of Northfield who began volunteering in 1959 when he became a member of the Jaycees. His many leadership activities include the Northfield Chamber of Commerce, Defeat of Jesse James Days, Northfield Sesquicentennial Celebration and the 50th Anniversary of the Northfield Arts Guild (where he also has appeared as on stage).  For many years, visitors to the Defeat of Jesse James Days bank raid re-enactments hear Dan’s narration.

Also a businessman, Dan owned a clothing store for may years and was part owner of the Rueb N Stein. Recent health issues have slowed down this energetic, generous citizen. The event on January 25 will be a great opportunity for his fans to greet and thank Dan Freeman for all he has done on behalf of his hometown.
