St. Paul Chamber Orchestra Comes to Carleton College
Submitted by Jessica Paxton on Tue, 01/14/2014 - 3:54pm
The revered St. Paul Chamber Orchestra comes to Carleton College for a special performance on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Tickets, available at the door, are $10 the general public, $7 for students and seniors, and free for those with a Carleton or St. Olaf College ID.
Rich orchestral colors and textures abound in this program by the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra (SPCO), considered to be one of the finest chamber ensembles in the world. The talents of SPCO flutist Julia Bogorad-Kogan will be showcased in the elegant dances and flashy badinerie of Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 2, followed by Stravinsky’s Neoclassical ballet suite from Pulcinella. Bach will also be revisited by way of Anton Webern’s pointillist interpretation of the Baroque master’s Ricercare from The Musical Offering, and the program concludes with Mendelssohn’s cherished Italian Symphony.
This not-to-be-missed concert will led by composer and conductor Matthias Pintscher, the newest music director of the distinguished French chamber orchestra, Ensemble InterContemporain.

This event is sponsored by the Carleton College Department of Music. For more information about this event, including disability accommodations, call (507) 222-4347. The Concert Hall is located on First Street, between Nevada and Winona Streets, in Northfield.
