Time to Register for River Bend Nature Center Summer Camps for Kids
Submitted by Jane B McWilliams on Mon, 05/28/2012 - 12:00am
As school winds down, it is time to make plans for summer activities. Check out River Bend Nature Center's 2012 Summer Camp Season which begins on June 19 and runs though August. Taking advantage of the over 700 acres of woods, river, ponds and prairie, experienced naturalists direct age appropriate camps for kids from toddlers to 16 year olds. The sessions vary by age level and by theme, so children may participate in multiple sessions which vary in length from 3-hour mornings to full days. There will also be two camps for 10-16 year olds in northern Minnesota. Enrollments are kept low to ensure individual attention. There is a scholarship program available. RBNC is located in Faribault. The name, River Bend, recognizes the great bend of the Straight River, as the Wahpekutey band of the Dakota living in the area in pre-settlement times called it. Created in 1979, RBNC is a non-profit, community-supported organization. The Center provides environmental learning programs for K-12 students during the academic year, as well as many other special programs for people of all ages. The goal is to help people discover, enjoy, understand and preserve the natural world.
There are miles of walking and cross-country ski trails, an interpretive center. In addition to the Straight River, there are several ponds, and acres of restored prairie and woods.
