Presentation on Helping Your Investments Survive Hard Financial Markets at Northfield Public Library
“Riding Out The Current Financial Storm” will be presented by Phyllis Onstad at the Northfield Public Library, 210 Washington in Northfield, on Thursday, April 23 at 7 pm. Onstad, University of Minnesota Extension Educator will provide key strategies and tools to prepare for times when money is tight, you lose your job, or have suddenly reduced income. She will also share key resources both online and in the community that will assist families and individuals, with a special emphasis for younger investors and job searchers.
This program is one in a series that is being offered at public libraries throughout southeastern Minnesota. Go to www.smartinvesting.selco.info or visit your local public library for a complete list of all the programs in the series. Persons attending any of these programs will receive a free 1 GB flash memory by filling out a short anonymous survey.
These programs, as well an expanded collection of print and electronic materials on investing at regional public libraries, have been made possible through a $100,000 “Smart Investing @ your library®” grant awarded to Southeastern Libraries Cooperating (SELCO) by the American Library Association (ALA) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Investor Education Foundation. SELCO was one of only 13 libraries nationwide to be selected for participation.
“We are so pleased to have been selected by the ALA and FINRA Investor Education Foundation for participation in this important investor education program,” said Ann Hutton, Executive Director, of SELCO. “Through the grant, we are able to offer a number of new high-quality investor programs, enabling area libraries to become an even stronger resource for patrons looking to learn more about investment options and saving strategies.”
“Smart investing @ your library®” is being administered jointly by the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), a division of the ALA, and the FINRA Investor Education Foundation (formerly known as the NASD Investor Education Foundation). The program supports public libraries in their efforts to meet investor education and protection needs at the community level.
