NYC Concert ChoirThe Northfield Youth Choirs will perform their spring concert, “Where Miracles Hide” on Sunday, May 3rd at 6 p.m. in St. Olaf College’s Boe Memorial Chapel. The concert features a premiere for harp and children’s choir, composed by Phala Tracy and commissioned by the NYC in honor of Northfield harpist Elinor Niemisto. Admission to the concert is free; a free will offering will be collected.

"We’re so pleased to have a special way to thank Elinor for her contributions to the Northfield Youth Choirs," says Artistic Director Elizabeth Shepley. “She’s been a great friend to the organization and accompanied us on so many occasions over the years.”

The concert's theme, “Where Miracles Hide,” comes from the text of “Tiger Swallowtail,” the piece composed by Phala Tracy. Tracy, a performer and composer, lives and works in Minneapolis, where she teaches harp at the MacPhail Center for Music and Gustavus Adolphus College.

Elinor Niemisto has been a regular accompanist for the youth choirs for more than 20 years and will accompany the choir on the piece commissioned in her honor. Niemisto, who currently holds endowed chairs in both the Rochester and La Crosse Symphony Orchestras, teaches harp at Carleton and St. Olaf Colleges and Suzuki Harp in Northfield and Owatonna.

NYC members enjoy weekly rehearsals, twice-yearly retreats, area performances and tours. The organization's choirs are divided by age, and singers of all levels of experience in grades 1-12 are welcome to participate. For more information, call 507-664-9335 or visit www.northfieldyouthchoirs.org.
