Northfield Area Family YMCA Business Challenge Update

The Northfield Area Family YMCA has raised $27,500 so far this month during their Business Builders Challenge. Thanks to matching gifts from Heartman Insurance, Just Food Co-op, and an anonymous donor, business donations are being matched dollar for dollar up to $50,000. The deadline for making a tax-deductible gift is this Friday June 20th.

The new Y Community Center, slated to open in mid-September, is a $9.3 million project funded by private and corporate donors. $7.5 million has been raised to date and the Y hopes to open its doors in a few months as a debt-free facility. Area businesses are encouraged to pledge this week so donations can be doubled through this generous match. Donors can structure their gift to be paid over the next 5 years.

YMCA Executive Director Virginia Kaczmarek says, "A new Y Community Center will make the area more attractive to new families, enhancing our quality of life and encouraging more people to live, eat and play in our community." The facility, located behind Target in Northfield, will include a community gathering space, indoor walking track, indoor pool, gym, supervised childcare area, group exercise studio and wellness floor.
