Mayoral Speed Candidating at The Grand this Sunday 2:00-4:30pm
The Northfield Union of Youth is excited to see so many mayoral candidates throw their hat in the ring. It may interest the Northfield community that we will be hosting a series of events that will be the first, if not the only, opportunity for the community to meet these candidates before the Mayoral primary in September. We will be hosting a SPEED CandiDATING function on Sunday, August 10th from 2:00-4:30pm. At this widely-publicized event, community members (in small groups) are invited to “speed date” the Mayoral candidates—get to know them, raise some issues, and ask questions. The format is highly unique and the idea of some of Northfield’s youth. We will hold this event at The Grand Event Center, and it should be a fun and festive atmosphere for the entire community.
The next two events will be held at the Key (The Northfield Union of Youth’s youth center) to further “date” the preliminary candidates before voting on September 9. These are Open House-type events in which three to four Mayoral candidates per evening will come and talk for ten or fifteen minutes about their campaign, and then spend time mingling with youth, parents, and other community members. These events will take place on Sundays, August 17th and 24th from 3:00-4:30(ish). Three or four candidates will attend each event.

Speed Candidating
Kudos to the Union of Youth for coming up with such a novel event. I wish you much success with the event. Not sure if I can make it myself but I will do my best to be there.
Sounds like a fabulous event!
This sounds really great - are all the candidates on board?
Paul Hager is unable to come
Paul Hager is unable to come because of a prior commitment but will be present at another meet n' greet function at The Key either the following Sunday or the one following that (I don't have the specifics in front of me). We are also not sure about Jon Dennison. We hope to see him there but he has not confirmed at this time. Otherwise everyone else has confirmed their presence. I hope people show up to the event!!!! Everyone of all ages is invited.
Speed Candidating and Upcoming Events
Thanks again to Lansing, Wolle, Schlichting, Hvistendahl, and Rossing for participating in this event. You all did an excellent job. Another thanks to all the youth that showed up to the event. I think we had over a dozen youth there. Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun!!
Here is the critique: ADULTS - WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU? I know Sundays can be leisurely days full of napping on the hammock and watching TV. I know some of you had things going on. But I know many of you didn’t. We all like to complain and moan about this and that, especially now that the election process is under way. Get proactive. Why not come and meet the candidates and ask them your questions and issues in person? Much more personable than a debate and a much better way to get a good feel for the candidates. I think a lot of people blew their chance on taking advantage of a wonderful opportunity.
There is salvation, though. A second chance. Redemption. THIS SUNDAY the 17th at 3:00PM the KEY will be hosting a “meet n’ greet” open house mayoral shindig with snacks, beverages, and the following candidates: Dave Hvistendahl, Mary Rossing, Eduardo Wolle, and (probably) Jon Dennison. We will do it up again on the 24th (3:00pm) with Paul Hager, Lee Lansing, and James Schlichting. Just show up and listen to the candidates talk for 5-10 minutes and then the candidates are done you can go and talk to them. Do you care about the environment, highway sprawl, future projects, the liquor store, energy sustainability, city taxes, youth issues, etc.? Well show up and ask them about your issues.
