League sponsors The ABCs of the Affordable Care Act on Tuesday, September 17

On October 1, an ambitious program of the Affordable Care Act will be launched. From that date until the end of 2013, Americans will have access to an electronic “marketplace” where we can shop for a health care plan. Implementing the program requires a huge organizational effort, including alerting us to where to find information so that we may understand how the program works and how to apply. In Minnesota, MNsure is the official health insurance exchange. Funded by the federal government, MNSure has created a website to which we can go to learn more about this important public resource.

The League of Women Voters of Northfield/Cannon Falls has scheduled a public forum on Tuesday, September 17 at 7:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 503 W. Third Street designed to provide information on the national, state and local implications of the law. Anna Odegaard of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU); Christina Wessel of the Minnesota Budget Project; and Charlie Mandile of Health Finders of Northfield and Faribault, will present information about October enrollment, January coverage, and much more.

This is an opportunity for all of us, whether or not we are already insured, whether workers or employers, or health care providers, to hear the speakers and bring our questions.
