jonPeople see an acoustic guitar and think, how nice, how simple. Let me tell you about my gear, what I run my acoustic guitar through.

First off I use a magnetic sound hole pickup with an electret condenser mic inside the body, made by Fishman, the Rare Earth blender. From there I line into a D-Tar Mama Bear acoustic tone emulator preamp. This gives a full and natural sound. Next in my chain is a RAT distortion unit favored by jazzers Bill Frisell and John Scofield. So much for natural! Then comes a real collectors item, a Mutron Octave Divider. For added sparkle and compression I use a JangleBox. A touch of tremelo is provided by a BOSS pedal, and tube warmth by Demeter. Phew!

And do I rely on the house pa system? No way! I bring along my enormous Yamaha monitor. I have to hear what I sound like, if I can’t hear, it’s no fun… Did I miss anything? Probably. Hey, my very important Lexicon reverb!

Come see me and my gear this Saturday at The Tavern Lounge, 7 - 11pm. Hopefully out on the deck. In the meantime, take a look at my new video:
