Jazz Ensemble Concert to Perform at Carleton College
The Carleton College Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combos, under the direction of David Singley, will perform in concert on Friday, Feb. 13 at 8 p.m. in the Concert Hall. The performance is free and open to the public.
The program will focus on Latin music, including songs from the Bob Mintzer Big Band’s “Latin From Manhattan” album, as well as the Dizzy Gillespie classic “Manteca.” The concert will also include an original composition by Singley and a tone poem by Bob Brookmeyer entitled “First Love Song.”
A lecturer in jazz and blues guitar, Singley is an accomplished world-class guitarist who has shared the stage with jazz greats Bob Brookmeyer, George Shearing and Arturo Sandoval. He has performed with the Minnesota Orchestra, the Minnesota Opera and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and has appeared on National Public Radio’s “A Prairie Home Companion.” He has recorded numerous jazz compositions and is a member of two of the finest jazz ensembles in the Upper Midwest—the JazzMN Big Band and Zona, a progressive jazz quartet. Singley received his bachelor of music degree in jazz composition and arrangement from the Berklee College of Music in Boston and has a master of music degree in jazz studies from Indiana University.
This concert is sponsored by the Carleton College Department of Music. The Concert Hall is located near First Street and Winona Street in Northfield. For more information or disability accommodations, contact the music department at (507) 222-4347.
