Iraq Vet Against the War to Speak Monday Night
Honoring Veterans, Asking Questions about War: A Presentation by Iraqi Vet and Retired Master Sergeant Wesley Davey
Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran and U.S. Army Reserve Master Sergeant Wesley Davey (ret.) will share his experiences as a soldier in the 2003 invasion of Iraq and his thoughts on those currently serving in the military, this coming Monday, October 20, 7pm, at the Just Food Event Center, 516 Water Street South, Northfield. His address is titled, “Honoring Veterans, Asking Questions about War.”
Davey, a member of the National Board of Directors for the Iraq Veterans Against the War, will invite audience participation by asking:
• Has the surge in Iraq been successful?
• Given the state of our economy, can we afford to keep our military in Iraq and Afghanistan for another 5,10, or 20 years?
• What are the “vital national interests” that justify the expense of keeping 30,000 service members in Japan 63 years after the end of WW2, or almost 60,000 troops in Germany? Why are we still defending South Korea 55 years after that war ended?
As we approach Election Day on November 4 and Veterans Day on November 11, Davey will share his thoughts on the moral, political, and social outcomes our current policies have brought about, and ask audience members to do the same. This presentation is sponsored by Northfield People for Peace and Goodwill. Contact Bob Ciernia at 663-7876 for more information.
