I Cantanti, Le Donne Cantanti and Nova Cantabile present "Gemini"
The I Cantanti Chamber Choirs of Northfield, directed by Wayne Kivell, will host the vocal ensemble, Nova Cantabile, in a concert titled “Gemini” on Sunday evening April 26 at 7:30. The concert will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church.
Though these two choral organizations are not twins, they are closely related ensembles. Both are amateur choral ensembles, from southern Minnesota, and have highly acclaimed histories.
Nova Cantabile is an ensemble of eight voices, with members from Blue Earth, Fairmont, St. James, Winnebago and Kiester. The rich blend of talent, performance experience and skilled musicianship creates an unforgettable sound. Nova Cantabile has developed a reputation for quality performances of choral literature in a variety of styles, including madrigals, vocal jazz, folk music, and traditional Christmas music.
I Cantanti (mixed choir) and Le Donne Cantanti (women’s voices) were founded in Northfield in 1988, and have been providing fine performances of all types of choral literature in the area for 21 years.
I Cantanti will open the program with an eclectic Missa Brevis, five mass movements by five different composers. They will also perform a section with works by the Romantic era composers, Franz Schubert and Johannes Brahms.
Nova Cantabile will perform a section of folk songs and love songs, and also sing some lighter selections and vocal jazz.
The choirs will close the concert with three combined selections. In lieu of an admission charge, a freewill exit offering will be taken.
