Grand Ol’ Summer: Activities for Kids and Their Grandparents!

Northfield Arts Guild and the Northfield Senior Center are teaming together this summer to offer a chance for kids and their grandparents to spend some fun time together.  We’ve got several activities for you to choose from during the months of July and August.

The highlight of this program will be a bus trip to Circus Juventas on Saturday, August 9th. The following Wednesday, kids and grans can sit down together and make their own circus using found objects and construction paper - go to YouTube and view Calder’s Circus to get an idea of what we’ll make.

You can paint a pot and plant a flower together or team up to build a birdhouse.

Take it easy and make a date to see a movie at the Northfield Senior Center while enjoying popcorn and lemonade.

Get out and get some fresh air during our photo scavenger hunt (I think that a photo of an ice cream cone is on the list!).  The next day, you’ll use your photos to create a collaged book or wall hanging.

Share your memories with your grandchild in our story telling workshop or gather some mementoes together and the two of you can make a memory book in our memory book workshop.

Our instructors include Marie Gery, Kelly Lynn Stanton-Nutt, Dar Brooks, and Dick Zawacki assisted by volunteers from the Senior Center.  We also like to thank the Healthy Community Initiative (HCI), with contributions from Allina Health, Northfield Hospital & Clinics, and the United Way for their support.

For more details on these activities go to the Northfield Senior Center or Northfield Arts Guild websites or refer to our summer schedules.
