Gardening: It's Almost Time!
Are you itching to get your hands in the dirt and start planting again? As the seed catalogs start to fill the mail box, the desire to plan the perfect garden takes hold in many of us. No matter that there's still two feet of snow and ice between us and the soil - the desire is still there.
With those desires in mind, Just Food Co-op is offering two gardening classes on February 13th taught by Sara Morrison. Sara owns The Backyard Grocery, a garden consulting company in Bayport, MN. Sara's goal is to help clients find "a garden that makes sense for their physical space, cooking and food preferences, lifestyle, and personal needs."
The first class, "Vegetable Plots for Beginning Gardeners", will help those who are true beginners decide on what their space needs are for food production and what are the optimal sites for a vegetable garden. Participants will learn how to prepare the soil and how to care for the garden. Which seeds or plants make the best choices for your food preferences and gardening time will also be covered.
"Seeds, Sprouts, Seedlings, Plants!" will assist intermediate gardeners, or those who take Beginning Gardening, in wading through the seed catalogs (when you have the urge to order one of everything!) to find the matches that work best for this climate and your gardening needs. Prepare to get your hands dirty and plant some seeds to take home to start for your garden.
Please join us for these fun and informative classes! For details, see the event posting on Northfield.org for each class:
