Ecumenical blessing of animals at Creator's Thumbprint Farm

On Sunday, Oct. 12, 2-5 p.m. The Creator's Thumbprint farm near Nerstrand is hosting a "groundbreaking" event centered on an ecumenical Blessing of the Animals -- with as many faith communities represented as wish to participate. For this blessing, people are encouraged to bring their own animal companions to be blessed or simply come and help with the blessing of our resident creatures. We have llamas, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, horses, dogs and cats. The blessing part of the event, which is free and open to the public, will begin around 3 p.m.

In addition to the blessing there will be a farm game (fun for adults and children), organic treats and a tour of this space, which is beginning its mission of service to the community and service to the concerns of sustainability, responsibility and combating "Nature Deficit Disorder" (as written of by Richard Louv in Last Child in the Woods). Future events will include movies on the barn, nativity worship with the animals in the barn, a meditation labyrinth, concerts and a fiber festival, as well as classes on cooking, spinning, knitting and weaving. Please join us as we begin this venture.

The Creator's Thumbprint is 3 miles south of Nerstrand on Rice County 26. Turn West on 200th Street. Look for signs -- we are the first farm to the south.
