Doris Gross

Doris Gross, age 65 of Dundas, MN and formerly of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away Monday, July 7, 2008 at the Long Term Care Center of the Northfield Hospital. Funeral Services will be 11:30 am Saturday, July 11th at Lincoln Memorial Chapel with a reception to follow and burial at the Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2-4:00pm at the Lincoln Memorial Chapel

Doris Marie Gross was born September 9, 1942 in Beatrice, NE, daughter of Frank and Dorothy (Routh) Larsen. She was raised in Beatrice and following graduation from Beatrice High School she began her secondary education. She interrupted her college education when she was united in marriage to James Edward Gross on March 17, 1962 at the 1st Christian Church in Beatrice.

Over the next few years they lived in Kearney, North Platte, and Martell, all in Nebraska. During this time Doris completed her college B.A. at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and obtained her teaching certificate. In Martell she began teaching grades 1-8 in a one room school house and continued for 3 years. During this time they moved to Lincoln and in 1975 she began working at the Lincoln Public Library and soon began driving the “Book Mobile” to outlying communities.

Doris retired in 2004 and in 2005 moved to Dundas, MN. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and being with her grandchildren. She approached life with courage, love, and selflessness and will be remembered by her positive and giving attitude. Memorials to the American Cancer Society.

Doris Gross is survived by sons Brad (Kari) Gross of Northfield, Mark (Desri) Gross of Los Angeles; daughter Chris (David) Lawrence of Denver; sisters Darlene Gabriel and Patty (Cliff) Guy both of Lincoln, NE; brother Frank (Mary) Larsen of Freemont, NE; brother-in-law Richard Scheideler of Beatrice, NE; and grandchildren Caleb, Krisanna, Jarrod, and Effie. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband James Gross; and sister Marilyn Scheideler.
