CVRO "Americana" Concert at UCC Church this Sunday
CANNON VALLEY REGIONAL ORCHESTRA PLAYS AN "AMERICANA" CONCERT OCTOBER 26
The Cannon Valley Regional Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Paul Niemisto, will open their 29th season by playing an "Americana" concert on the eve of our elections on Sunday, October 26, 3:00 P. M. at the First UCC Congregational Church in Northfield. The address is 300 Union St. While the theme of the concert is prompted by the upcoming election, the music is very homegrown. Selections include Copland's "Lincoln Portrait," local composer Dan Kallman's tribute to Joseph Heywood entitled "Fidelitas," and William Schuman's "New England Triptych" and Grofe's "Grand Canyon Suite."
Jane McWilliams, known in the area as an active member of the League of Women Voters, will narrate the Copland "Lincoln Portrait." Dan Kallman has composed widely for many groups from bands to choir to orchestras. His "Fidelitas" celebrates the faithfulness of Joseph Heywood in defending the bank in the Jesse James raid of the last century.
Tickets are available at the door, $5 for adults. Children and students are free.
The sponsorship of the Cannon Valley Regional Orchestra is provided through the Northfield Arts Guild, Community Resource Bank, the National Endowment for the Arts, Minnesota State Arts Board, and the McKnight foundation through an appropriation of the Minnesota State Legislature.
