The Commonweal Theatre Company presents Henrik Ibsen’s HEDDA GABLER on Wednesday April 1 at Newhall Auditorium on the Shattuck-St. Mary’s campus, 1000 Shumway Avenue, Faribault. Tickets are available by calling the box office at 507-333-1620 or online at dmusselman@s-sm.org.

The play begins with Hedda returning home with her new husband, George Tesman, after a European honeymoon. As the couple receives company in their home, they learn that an old friend, Eilert Lovborg, has re-emerged in the social scene after having been reformed of his younger, wilder ways. Already feeling trapped by her safe choice for a husband, Hedda attempts to lure Lovborg back to his more passionate lifestyle and ends up setting off a tragic chain of events. A chilling play of obsession and manipulation, Hedda Gabler features one of the great dramatic roles for women in theatre, sometimes called the "female Hamlet.

The Commonweal Theatre Company of Lanesboro, Minnesota produces one of Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen’s plays each year and remains the only theatre company in North America with such a commitment.

Known as the father of modern drama, Henrik Ibsen is considered one of the world's greatest playwrights. His ability to turn revolutionary philosophical ideas into brilliant social dramas inspired the likes of other modern playwrights.
