City Seeks Applicants to Economic Development Authority

The City is seeking candidates for the open seat on the Economic Development Authority, the seven-member board whose purpose is to improve the economic condition of Northfield. Working in partnership with such organizations as the Chamber of Commerce, the Northfield Downtown Development Corporation and the Northfield Enterprise Center, the EDA provides loans and grants to support appropriate local commercial and industrial development. Currently, they are guiding the City’s master planning for the recently annexed acreage in Greenvale Township, and will also begin similar work in Bridgewater Township once the city and township complete their annexation agreement.

Each member serves a six-year term, and is eligible for unlimited reappointment. Members receive no monetary compensation. Applications are available in the Administration Department at City Hall.

The Mayor recommends and appoints applicants based on their background, interests, and willingness to serve. The goal of the Mayor is to have members on the various boards and commissions who represent all segments of the community. Interested individuals may submit applications throughout the year, however, the administration will begin forwarding applications for the current opening on the EDA beginning March 12, 2010. The Mayor will recommend an appointment to the EDA. The appointment is subject to the City Council approval.
